The knee jerk response when people ask you “How you doing?”…

You know what I mean… that response when even if you were on cloud 9 or depressed as hell, it just automatically pops out of your mouth before you get a chance to think…

As a business owner, you need to put on a professional ‘appearance’. You have to look like you got your shit together otherwise why would someone trust you with their money?

Right?

But we are only humans.

I argue that its one of the most stressful jobs you could have (at the bottom is a list of the most stressful jobs in USA and I was sitting there at #4) because you worry about E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G all the time.

Money – Do i have enough to make it to next month

Future – Where am I going with this? Is it time to quit and get a job

Family – How am i going to keep the roof over my family’s head?

Business – How am i going to sell? How do i cope when i get more work

You are literally under stress 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

It’s hard to get away from it.

Even when I was on holiday in Japan and Hong Kong, I would think about work at random times. When I was on the bullet train whistling away at 140mph or when I was sitting overlooking Hong Kong harbour… my thoughts would wonder back to work.

It’s probably one of the main reasons why people who own businesses turn to drugs/alcohol or other unhealthy pastimes… and the high risk of depression and suicide.

I’ve found that talking to others has helped me massively. People who understand what Im going through. It’s only taken me 15 years of running my own businesses to understand that and to find ways to relieve the stress and pressure that build up.

So my questions to you is…

“How are you really doing?”
